RECOVERY OF OIL FROM SPENT BLEACHING EARTH

Spent Bleaching Earth is a solid waste material generated as a part of the refining process in a Vegetable Oil Industry worldwide.

Pre treatment of crude oil in refinery involves degumming and bleaching which generates plenty of Spent Bleaching Earth. The Spent Bleaching Earth serves as a by-product, which contains high percentage of oil.

Large quantity of Spent Bleaching Earth is disposed of in land fills, causing fire and environmental hazards due to substantial oil content in Spent Bleaching Earth.

There is a need for a process to recover the oil in Spent Bleaching Earth in an economical and efficient manner, before disposing of Spent Bleaching Earth.

MECPRO has a vast experience in this field and has been able to develop a process technology to extract the oil from Spent Bleaching Earth in a continuous process, using both Flamable and Non- Flamable solvents, as against batch process prevalent in the Industry, currently.

The oil recovered can be reused as a raw material for industrial applications to save the cost, in the oil processing industry. As the residual oil has a very high FFA, it can be used only for non-food applications, besides, for bio-fuel and soap.

Resultant, deoiled Spent Bleaching Earth is safe enough to be disposed in land fills. It can be used as a fuel in the incinerator system. The anhydrous clay can be used in cement manufacturing, as well. It can also be used in manufacturing fertilizers containing silica/silicates, or can be used as a soil amendment, as it poses no harm to the soil and act as a soil conditioner.
